Turkey announces full control over forest fire in the Fethiye region in the southwest of the country

Istanbul, July 31 (KUNA) -- Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli announced on Friday that firefighting teams have gained full control over the forest fires in the Fethiye district of Mugla province in southwestern Turkey, while other blazes in three different areas have been largely extinguished.

In a post on the Turkish social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Turkish minister stated that the fires in the Gemice district of Balikesir province, Alanya in Antalya province, and the Golnar and Aydinlik areas in Mersin province are now largely under control. He confirmed that continuous firefighting operations in the Cine district of Aydin province will continue without interruption until they are fully brought under control, noting that firefighting teams are working both on the ground and from the air as part of efforts to protect Turkey’s forests.

The minister announced on Thursday that full control had been achieved over forest fires that broke out in three provinces: Balikesir, Canakkale, and Antalya in southern Turkey.

These fires occur as Turkey faces a difficult summer season, with increasing heatwaves and drought conditions that annually lead to forest fires in several provinces bordering the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas. Turkish experts emphasize that rising temperatures, low humidity, and wind activity are among the key factors that accelerate the spread of fires and complicate firefighting efforts.
