Algeria: 25 dead and 44 injured in a horrific traffic accident in Boumerdès Province

Algiers, July 31 (KUNA) -- The Algerian Civil Protection announced on Friday that 25 people were killed and 44 others injured in an initial tally following a horrific road accident in which a passenger bus overturned and fell into a ravine in the Bir Mourad Raïs area of the Boumerdès province, eastern Algeria. In a statement, the Civil Protection said its units intervened at around 10 a.m., immediately after receiving a report of the bus, which was traveling from the Sétif province in the east, veering off course, overturning, and plunging down a slope on the bypass road between Bir Mourad Raïs municipality and the Boumerdès district. The statement clarified that rescue and hospital evacuation operations were still ongoing, adding that “the casualty toll is likely to rise given the severity of most of the injuries.” (End) M.R. / N.A.A.
