Belgium welcomes the agreement on the disarmament of Hamas and armed factions in Gaza

Brussels, July 31 (KUNA) -- Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot welcomed on Friday the announced agreement on the disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions in the Gaza Strip, describing its full implementation by all parties as a “significant step toward ending the conflict and achieving lasting peace and security.” In a post on his official X account, Prevot praised the mediation efforts undertaken by U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, stating that “all parties must now implement the agreement without delay, under independent monitoring, and in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.” He emphasized that the agreement “must pave the way for greater humanitarian aid access, the return of Palestinian governance to Gaza, and renewed momentum toward a two-state solution through negotiations,” adding that “diplomacy deserves a genuine opportunity.” Earlier on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the Gaza Peace Council had reached what he described as a “historic agreement” for the disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza.
