The National Independent Committee welcomes the roadmap for implementing the next phases of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip
Gaza, July 31 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian National Independent Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip welcomed today, Friday, the progress announced regarding the roadmap and the opening of a path toward implementing the next phases of the ceasefire agreement in the Strip. In a statement, the committee said, “This development represents an important milestone for the people of the Gaza Strip, after years of conflict, destruction, and uncertainty. The priority today is to translate this progress into practical steps that have a tangible impact on citizens’ daily lives.”
The committee affirmed its full readiness to assume its responsibilities, following extensive institutional and operational preparations over the past months to take charge of the administration of the Strip, restore basic public services, strengthen the rule of law, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and lead recovery and reconstruction efforts.
It noted that it would focus on restoring the functioning of public administration institutions, reestablishing essential services, improving humanitarian conditions, enhancing public security, laying the necessary foundations for recovery and reconstruction, creating an enabling environment for development, and generating economic opportunities.
The committee pointed out that the success of this phase depends first on Palestinian national partnership and the complementarity of roles among national institutions, local bodies, the private sector, and civil society organizations, which constitute the cornerstone of Gaza’s administration and recovery. In this regard, the committee stressed that reconstructing Gaza requires sustained international commitment, substantial financial resources, and close cooperation among all partners, adding, “The committee is prepared for this responsibility and will carry it out with seriousness, speed, discipline, transparency, and accountability.”
It further noted that the objective extends beyond rebuilding what was destroyed by war to contributing to the construction of a safe, stable, and prosperous Gaza governed by legitimate Palestinian institutions and based on the rule of law, thereby strengthening the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood.
Earlier, on Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced that the Gaza Peace Council had reached what he described as a “historic agreement” for the disarmament of the Palestinian Hamas movement and all other armed groups in Gaza. Trump stated in a post on the Truth Social platform that “this agreement represents a highly significant step toward Gaza finally coming under the control of a new Palestinian government that will work in close cooperation with the Peace Council to assist the Palestinian people.” (End)
