Director of Kuwait Radio: Reviving Kuwaiti Folk Arts with Artificial Intelligence in a Global Language
Kuwait City, July 31 (KUNA) – The Director General of the General Administration of Radio of the State of Kuwait, Dr. Yousef Al-Sarie, said on Friday that the radio station has worked to revive several works of Kuwaiti folk arts using artificial intelligence in a global language.
Dr. Al-Sarie told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the world is currently witnessing a major transformation in the music industry, thanks to artificial intelligence technologies that have become tools capable of re-presenting musical heritage in contemporary styles that preserve its identity and open new horizons for reaching a global audience.
He noted that folk arts in their various forms, such as Sawt, Samri, Al-Khamari, and maritime arts, represent a rich cultural heritage that reflects the history of Kuwaiti society and its connection to the sea, the desert, and social life.
He clarified that redistributing these arts using artificial intelligence technologies and integrating them with a symphony orchestra does not mean changing their identity, but rather presenting them in a modern musical format that combines large Western instruments with Kuwaiti folk instruments and rhythms, creating works capable of standing alongside global compositions presented at the most important international theaters and festivals.
Al-Sarie stated that global experiences have proven that when heritage music is presented with a professional orchestral vision, it reaches a wider audience and transcends the boundaries of language and geography. From this perspective, Kuwaiti arts can be transformed into symphonic works that express Kuwait’s cultural identity and participate in international festivals and global musical performances, serving as artistic ambassadors that reflect the authenticity of the heritage and the spirit of the times.
He emphasized that this experience helps introduce young people to the beauty of Kuwaiti folk music through a format close to modern tastes, giving them the opportunity to discover the artistic treasures left by pioneers while preserving the melodies, rhythms, and authentic spirit that distinguish them.
He mentioned that these works are broadcast on the (Easy) music station of Radio of the State of Kuwait on frequencies 92.5 FM and 96.5 FM, as it is the appropriate platform to showcase these new musical experiments, combining calm and refined music with space for presenting orchestral works inspired by Kuwaiti and Gulf heritage.
He added that by broadcasting these works, listeners can experience an artistic fusion of the fragrance of the past and the technologies of the future, in a message affirming that heritage is not merely memory, but a source of continuous creativity capable of addressing the world in its contemporary musical language.
He noted that investing in artificial intelligence to serve folk arts represents an important cultural step that contributes to safeguarding intangible heritage, enhancing its global presence, and highlighting Kuwait’s musical identity in a manner befitting its ancient history, while opening new horizons for it in the international music landscape.
