Germany: Number of Deportations Declines in First Half of the Year

Berlin, July 31 (KUNA) -- Data released by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior on Friday showed a decline in the number of people deported from Germany during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year. According to figures provided by the ministry to the public, 9,663 individuals were deported in that period, down from more than 11,800 in the first half of 2025. Despite this decrease, the government affirmed that its migration policy would not change, noting that it is proceeding with stricter measures to manage irregular migration.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt defended the German government’s policy aimed at accelerating deportation operations, stating that they follow an approach based on monitoring and firmness. Meanwhile, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party criticized these figures, considering them indicative of the failure of deportation policies.

The data also showed that 9,276 people left Germany voluntarily during the first six months of the year, benefiting from government programs supporting voluntary return, along with other cases handled through programs managed by the German states. (End) A.N.J. / T.M.A.
