A series of earthquakes strike northern Iraq with no reported casualties

Erbil, July 31 (KUNA) -- The General Authority of Meteorology and Seismology, under Iraq’s Ministry of Transport, announced on Friday that Kirkuk province in northern Iraq experienced a series of earthquakes, with no casualties reported. The authority said in a statement that seismic stations recorded a series of tremors in Kirkuk city from Thursday evening until Friday morning. It clarified that one of the earthquakes, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, occurred 30 kilometers east of Kirkuk province and was felt by residents of the province. According to the authority’s statistics, 50 earthquakes were recorded in Iraq and neighboring areas during the previous month of June, with no casualties reported. (End) S.B.R. / T.M.A.
