Kuwait University: Acceptance of 8,409 students meeting the requirements for the first semester (2026-2027)
Kuwait City, July 30 (KUNA) -- The University of Kuwait announced on Thursday the acceptance of 8,409 Kuwaiti male and female students for the first semester of the 2026-2027 academic year. The accepted candidates are high school graduates who meet the admission requirements.
Dr. Fadel Aziz, Acting Dean of Admissions and Registration at the University of Kuwait, stated in a press statement that all applicants who met the admission criteria and selected all their preferred choices were accepted. He clarified that this figure does not include students admitted through external scholarships, Abdullah Al-Salem University, or those whose equivalent GPA or secondary school percentage did not align with their selected choices, the minimum admission thresholds, or the predetermined quotas.
Dr. Aziz noted that students can identify their accepted major by accessing their submitted enrollment application or through the unified government electronic services application ("Sahel"). He explained, "The digital code associated with each student’s name corresponds to their accepted major. Students can verify their major by referring to the table of minimum percentages, where the code is listed alongside the major’s name."
He emphasized that the University of Kuwait ensured transparency in its admission criteria by publishing the equivalent GPAs and minimum secondary school percentages required for admission across all faculties and majors. Dr. Aziz added that competition for seats in all faculties was based solely on the equivalent GPA or secondary school percentage, without discrimination between male and female applicants. He clarified that the equivalent GPA is calculated based on the results of the academic aptitude tests required by each faculty, in addition to the student’s secondary school percentage.
Regarding future opportunities, he stated that students may submit a new enrollment application for the second semester during a period to be announced later by the Dean of Admissions and Registration. However, under a university council decision, "no modifications to the majors specified in the enrollment application are permitted after the application submission period has ended."
Dr. Aziz further explained that after the admission results are announced, Kuwaiti high school graduates from the unified system and the Religious Institute who applied online, as well as those who submitted enrollment requests at the Admissions and Registration Hall, must pay a fee of 10 Kuwaiti dinars (approximately $32.40) via the KNET payment system through the electronic admissions portal "to validate their admission." He noted that these students are not required to visit the Admissions and Registration Hall to submit documents.
Additionally, Kuwaiti high school graduates from American and British curricula must visit the Admissions and Registration Hall to submit their documents and validate their admission between August 2 and 6, according to specific dates to be communicated via SMS.
He also informed that Kuwaiti students expected to graduate from British high schools, who submitted their enrollment applications electronically within the specified deadlines, must submit their final results to the Dean of Admissions and Registration within two working days of the announcement of their results. Their admission will be granted in accordance with the announced minimum thresholds. Dr. Aziz affirmed that "these students’ chances of admission are equal to those of their peers who completed their documentation during the application submission period."
Dr. Aziz announced that the Dean of Admissions and Registration has set August 9 as the start date for course registration for new students. Each student’s registration appointment will be scheduled via SMS to their mobile phones, and students can check their registration dates through the website: https://portal.ku.edu.kw/sis.
