Kuwait Interior Ministry: 16 suspects arrested with narcotics and psychotropic substances for trafficking and consumption

Kuwait City, July 30 (KUNA) – The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday the arrest of 16 suspects in nine separate cases involving the possession of narcotics and psychoactive substances with intent to traffic and consume. In a press statement, the ministry said the General Directorate of Narcotics Control succeeded in apprehending the suspects following intensive surveillance and investigative operations that uncovered their activities, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat the scourge of drugs and confront their distributors.

The operations resulted in the seizure of 3 kilograms and 35 grams of methamphetamine, 15 grams of heroin, 11 grams of cannabis, and 2 grams of “chemical” (synthetic cathinone). Additionally, 96 sheets saturated with the chemical substance, fragments soaked in the same material, 2,502 tablets of Captagon, 81 tablets and capsules of psychoactive substances, three sensitive scales, and 960 Kuwaiti dinars (approximately $3,100 USD), representing the proceeds of trafficking, were confiscated.

The ministry also noted that the General Directorate of Narcotics Control thwarted an attempt to smuggle a quantity of methamphetamine into the country following precise investigations that identified a postal shipment in which the substance was secretly concealed. The shipment was tracked, and the suspect was apprehended immediately upon receipt. Another quantity of the same narcotic, intended for distribution, was also found in his possession.

The ministry stated that the suspects and confiscated items have been referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal measures. (End) A.J.R.
