Somali President: "Strategic Partnership" with the United States Contributes to Enhancing Regional Security

Cairo, July 30 (KUNA) -- Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud affirmed that the “strategic partnership” with the United States contributes effectively to developing the capabilities of the Somali Armed Forces and enhancing security, stability, and development in his country and the region. The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported that this statement came during a meeting held on Thursday between President Mohamud and General Dagvin Anderson, commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), to discuss ways to strengthen security and defense cooperation between the two countries. The agency clarified that the meeting also addressed developments in the regional security situation, accelerated joint efforts in “counterterrorism,” enhanced military capabilities, and continued U.S. support for the Somali government’s efforts to achieve security and stability. President Mohamud expressed his appreciation for the continuous support provided by the United States to Somalia. The agency noted that Anderson, for his part, reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continuing its support for Somalia, particularly in the areas of “counterterrorism,” training and development of the armed forces, and strengthening strategic and security cooperation between the two countries.
