Lebanon announces thwarting of an attempt to smuggle a quantity of Captagon pills into Kuwait

Beirut, July 30 (KUNA) -- Lebanon announced on Thursday the thwarting of a smuggling operation involving a quantity of (Captagon) pills destined for Kuwait via a shipping company, and the arrest of one of the suspects within Kuwaiti territory, in coordination with Kuwaiti security agencies.

The Lebanese General Directorate of Internal Security said in a statement that intensive investigations and follow-up led to the seizure of 6.5 kilograms of (Captagon) pills hidden inside a children’s bed prepared for smuggling to Kuwait.

The statement added that immediate coordination was established with the General Administration for Combating Narcotics in Kuwait through the Criminal Security Office at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Lebanon, resulting in the arrest of one suspect in Kuwait and the seizure of a quantity of narcotics in his possession.

It clarified that these inquiries were part of the ongoing efforts to pursue those involved in drug crimes, following the thwarting of a previous smuggling operation involving a 4.5-kilogram shipment of (Captagon) hidden in the same manner inside a child’s bed, which was destined for Saudi Arabia via Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport.

It noted that security forces were able to identify and arrest the sender of the first parcel in the Riad al-Solh neighborhood in Beirut, and it was determined that he is a Lebanese national.

The Directorate confirmed that all necessary legal procedures have been taken against the arrested suspect, and that work and investigations continue to arrest the remaining members of the network and those involved in both operations, in coordination with the competent judiciary.
