Egyptian Petroleum: Fire on two loading and storage ships at Damietta Port, no injuries
Cairo, July 29 (KUNA) -- The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on Wednesday that a fire broke out on a bunkering vessel and another storage ship at the Port of Damietta on the Mediterranean Sea. The ministry confirmed that emergency teams responded to the incident immediately upon its occurrence, in accordance with approved rapid response plans, with no injuries or casualties reported.
In a statement, the ministry said the fire occurred on the bunkering and storage vessels at the port, noting that the competent authorities, along with firefighting and security teams on site, managed the situation promptly following established emergency and rapid response plans.
The ministry added that Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, traveled to the incident site to monitor developments on the ground, ensure the progress of containment and security operations, and verify the implementation of all safety procedures. He also oversaw full coordination among the various relevant parties until the incident was safely resolved.
The ministry emphasized that the fire resulted in no injuries or casualties, and that emergency teams, in coordination with specialized technical authorities, continued to complete security measures and take necessary actions in accordance with approved standards to ensure site safety.
It further clarified that competent authorities are continuing to take necessary steps to assess the incident’s repercussions and causes, while maintaining on-the-ground monitoring until all security operations are fully completed.
