Egyptian Foreign Minister and US Middle East Envoy Discuss De-escalation Efforts in the Region

Cairo, July 29 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks today with U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff on the latest regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that the discussion took place during a phone call, during which both sides exchanged views and assessments regarding current developments. The statement said both sides emphasized the importance of working to contain escalation and prevent the region from sliding into a wider conflict, thereby safeguarding the security and stability of regional countries and sparing their peoples further humanitarian and economic repercussions stemming from ongoing tensions. It added that Minister Abdelatty stressed during the call the necessity of respecting the principles of good neighborliness, full adherence to international law, and respect for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states. He affirmed the importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions and intensifying efforts aimed at de-escalation and reducing tensions, which would contribute to restoring regional security and stability and prevent the situation from worsening. Minister Abdelatty condemned all attacks targeting the Arab Gulf states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, reiterating Egypt’s complete rejection of any actions that undermine the security or sovereignty of sister countries or threaten their stability.
