Bahrain strongly condemns the repeated despicable attempts to target petroleum facilities in Saudi Arabia

Manama, July 29 (KUNA) -- The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the repeated despicable attempts to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which were carried out by Iran-backed militias using drones launched from Iraqi territory. In a statement issued Tuesday evening, the ministry described the incident as a serious escalation that threatens regional security and stability, a blatant violation of the principles of good neighborliness and international law, and a clear defiance of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, as well as an undermining of efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

The ministry reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its absolute support for all measures the latter takes to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability, including its right to respond to sources of aggression and deter aggressors in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, international law, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Joint Defense Agreement. It further emphasized Bahrain’s steadfast support for Saudi Arabia in any response it deems necessary, rooted in the deep-rooted historical fraternal ties between the leaderships and peoples of the two brotherly countries, their shared blood and destiny, and the recognition that the security and stability of Saudi Arabia are an inseparable part of Bahrain’s national security and the collective security of the GCC states.

The ministry also commended the efficiency and high vigilance of Saudi air defenses in intercepting and destroying the drones before they reached their targets, thereby contributing to the protection of civilians and the preservation of vital infrastructure.

Bahrain renewed its call on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities by issuing an urgent resolution condemning Iran’s unjustified attacks on countries in the region, demanding the immediate and complete cessation of these despicable attacks, and calling for respect for the sovereignty of states, the principles of good neighborliness, freedom of maritime navigation, and the security of global energy supplies and trade. It urged holding Iran fully legally and materially accountable under international law, UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and UN Human Rights Council Resolution 1/61, in a manner that contributes to consolidating regional and international peace and security.
