US Senate Confirms Jay Clayton as New Director of the US Intelligence Agency

Washington, July 28 (KUNA) – The U.S. Senate approved on Tuesday the appointment of Jay Clayton, President Donald Trump’s nominee, as director of the Central Intelligence Agency, amid Democratic opposition and reservations regarding his intelligence experience. The vote on Clayton’s appointment resulted in 51 votes in favor and 47 against, with all Republican senators voting in favor and no Democratic senator supporting his nomination. Clayton previously served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and chaired the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission during Trump’s first term.
