Pakistan and Jordan Foreign Ministers Discuss Developments in the Palestinian Territories

Islamabad, July 28 (KUNA) -- Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar held talks today, Tuesday, with his Jordanian counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, on the latest developments in Palestinian territories. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the discussion took place during a phone call, during which both sides expressed their deep concern over the deterioration of the situation in Palestine, particularly the continuation of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The statement added that both sides also expressed concern over ongoing Israeli air raids and ground operations, as well as the escalation of violence perpetrated by settlers in the West Bank. It noted that the two ministers strongly condemned the repeated incursions by settlers and far-right extremist groups into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem, alongside restrictions imposed on Palestinian worshippers, emphasizing that these provocative practices violate the sanctity of the mosque, exacerbate tensions, and undermine prospects for achieving peace. The statement further noted that the two sides discussed the Jordanian proposal to convene a meeting of a group of Arab and Islamic countries to assess the evolving situation and coordinate efforts and diplomatic initiatives. It added that Safadi praised Pakistan’s constructive role and its efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, expressing hope that ongoing diplomatic initiatives would yield positive outcomes. For his part, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and its backing of a just, permanent, and comprehensive peace achieved through the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent, contiguous, viable Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
