Turkish President signs agreements and contracts with Iraqi Prime Minister in various fields, particularly energy

Istanbul, July 28 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his guest, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Idabi, signed agreements and contracts today, Tuesday, covering the fields of energy, transport, education, and water. At a joint press conference following the talks, President Erdogan expressed his country’s readiness to support the al-Idabi government, particularly in development plans.

Regarding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, Erdogan noted that the Turkish Petroleum Corporation had won a partnership stake in the Kirkuk field, affirming that “the agreement signed today is a historic step in terms of energy partnership.” He also expressed Turkey’s willingness to make every possible effort to supply Iraq with defense industry products it requires.

Erdogan added that he had exchanged views with the Iraqi Prime Minister on regional developments, particularly concerning Iran, Syria, and Palestine.

For his part, the Iraqi Prime Minister emphasized his country’s commitment to strengthening ties with Turkey across various fields, especially the economic sector, noting that “Iraq and Turkey share geography, civilization, and water resources.” He clarified that “relations between Iraq and Turkey will become more advanced; we will enhance economic resources and double oil flows.”

Al-Idabi arrived in Turkey earlier today on an official visit, marking the third country he has visited since assuming office on April 27, following Iran and the United States. Baghdad is seeking to strengthen strategic partnerships with its northern neighbor amid complex challenges, particularly in water, energy, and security, as well as efforts to activate strategic economic projects and revive oil exports through Turkish territory.
