Minister of Commerce issues a decree restricting the purchase of subsidized goods to citizens, their families, and their domestic workers

Kuwait City, July 28 (KUNA) -- Kuwait’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Osama Al-Boudi, issued a ministerial decree today, Tuesday, restricting the distribution of subsidized food items to Kuwaiti citizens, their families, and their domestic workers, while repealing all previous regulations that allowed distribution to other categories.

In a statement, the Ministry of Commerce said the decree amended Item 1 of Article 5 of Ministerial Decision No. 216 of 2014, concerning the executive regulations of Law No. 117 of 2013, so that the eligible categories for receiving subsidized food items are now Kuwaiti citizens, their families, and their domestic workers.

The ministry added that the decree abolished all provisions that previously authorized or regulated the distribution or benefit from subsidized food items for categories not specified in the new ruling.

It clarified that the decree also halts the allocation of subsidized food items on food cards for anyone proven to have resold or transferred these items to others, with violators referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal action against them.

The ministry noted that the decree takes effect from the date of its issuance, repeals any conflicting provisions, and will be published in the Official Gazette. (End) A.A.M. / A.A.H.
