Algeria and Jordan Foreign Ministers Discuss Regional Developments and Recent Situation Updates

Algiers, July 28 (KUNA) -- Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held talks today, Tuesday, with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as on developments in the Arab Gulf and the Middle East. The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the discussion, conducted over the phone, addressed the systematic escalation carried out by the Israeli occupation in the West Bank and in holy Jerusalem, which was again manifested in the incursion into the Qalandia training center of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), “in blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.” In this context, both sides stressed the necessity of respecting the legal and historical status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in holy Jerusalem, reaffirming “the imperative to mobilize international community support to put an end to these repeated practices and violations, which undermine the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and harm efforts to achieve just and lasting peace throughout the region.” The two ministers also discussed developments in the Arab Gulf and the Middle East region, “in particular, efforts to de-escalate tensions and the importance of prioritizing diplomatic and peaceful solutions to ensure security and stability in the region.” (End) M.R. / M.A.A.
