Yemeni government condemns drone attack on Saudi Arabia launched from Iraq

Aden, July 27 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni government strongly condemned on Monday the attacks targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia using drones launched by militias affiliated with the Iranian regime from Iraqi territory. In a statement, the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs said these attacks represent a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of state sovereignty, posing a threat to regional security and peace. It emphasized that they reflect Iran’s continued use of armed militias to destabilize the region. The statement affirmed Yemen’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its steadfast support alongside it in confronting all threats to its security, stability, and sovereignty, as well as its backing of all measures taken to protect its territory and citizens and to deter sources of threat and terrorism. It pointed out that these attacks reflect the Iranian regime’s destructive behavior through its network of proxies and armed militias, constituting a direct threat to the regional security architecture, international navigation, and the stability of the global economy, in blatant defiance of international legal resolutions and efforts to restore peace in the region. The statement clarified that the Yemeni people have been and remain among the most severely affected by these policies, due to Iran’s continued support for the Houthi militia, which has prolonged the war, deepened the humanitarian crisis, targeted civilian infrastructure, and threatened international navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. It called on the international community and the Security Council to adopt a firmer stance against Iran’s destabilizing activities, hold accountable the entities supporting and financing terrorist militias, and prevent the use of any country’s territory as a launching pad for attacks on other states, thereby enhancing international peace and security. It warned that continuing to allow Iran and its proxies to act with impunity would encourage further attacks and undermine prospects for peace and stability in the region. It is recalled that the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced earlier today that it had intercepted and destroyed several drones coming from Iraqi territory in recent hours, which had attempted to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Province and the Riyadh region.
