Egypt welcomes Ireland's approval of a law banning imports of goods from Israeli settlements

Cairo, July 26 (KUNA) -- Egypt welcomed on Sunday Ireland’s approval of a law banning the import of goods from Israeli settlements established in the occupied Palestinian territories, calling on European Union countries to take a similar step. In a statement, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this move reflects a commitment to the provisions of international law and resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, and underscores the rejection of the illegal settlement activities of the Israeli occupation that violate the rights of the Palestinian people and undermine the prospects for achieving just and lasting peace. Egypt reiterated its call on EU countries and the international community to take similar legal measures to ensure that they do not directly or indirectly contribute to supporting or sustaining the illegal settlements. It reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, emphasizing that stability in the Middle East requires ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It is recalled that the Irish Parliament approved a bill banning the import of goods from settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, covering all items related to housing, agriculture, and trade.
