Palestinian President calls for urgent international action to halt the occupation's aggression and settlers' terrorism
Ramallah, July 26 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on Sunday for urgent international action to halt the Israeli occupation’s aggression and the terrorism perpetrated by settlers. In messages sent to leaders of fraternal countries, the European Union, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, and the President of the UN Security Council, Abbas emphasized, according to the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa), that the occupied Palestinian territories are witnessing a dangerous escalation resulting from continuous attacks carried out by Israeli occupation forces and armed settler gangs. These attacks have claimed hundreds of innocent civilian lives, destroyed property, and burned homes, religious sites, trees, and agricultural lands.
He clarified that what is unfolding is no longer merely sporadic acts of violence, but a systematic Israeli policy aimed at imposing new facts on the ground by expanding settlements, escalating settler terrorism, and undermining and weakening the institutions of the Palestinian National Authority. This policy deliberately undermines the prospects for implementing the two-state solution and threatens peace and stability in the region.
Abbas pointed out that these policies aim to displace Palestinian citizens from their lands, warning of the serious consequences of such actions, including heightened tensions and the undermining of regional and international efforts aimed at achieving peace.
He called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and to take practical and urgent steps to pressure the Israeli occupation government to stop settler attacks, hold those responsible accountable, halt all settlement activities, and implement relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which affirmed the illegality of settlements in all Palestinian territories.
Abbas reiterated Palestine’s commitment to the option of a just and comprehensive peace, the two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions, the rejection of violence and extremism, and cooperation with all international partners to consolidate security, stability, and peace in the region.
