Yemeni Prime Minister: Houthi militia's targeting of ships confirms implementation of an Iranian agenda

Aden, July 26 (KUNA) – Yemeni Prime Minister Shuaib al-Zandani said on Sunday that the Houthi militias’ continued targeting of commercial ships and threats to the security of the Red Sea and international shipping lanes further confirm their implementation of Iran’s agenda to destabilize the region, undermine its stability, and erode international maritime security.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, al-Zandani added that “Yemenis alone do not bear the cost of these practices; their repercussions extend across the region and the world by threatening freedom of navigation, international supply chains and trade, and undermining United Nations, regional, and international efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability.”

He clarified that safeguarding freedom of navigation and the security of sea lanes is a “collective responsibility,” calling on the international community to “adopt a firmer and more deterrent stance against the terrorist conduct of the Houthis, cut off sources of their support, and prevent the continuation of their threat to regional and international interests.”

He stressed that the Yemeni government will continue to work in close coordination with the Saudi-led coalition supporting legitimacy and international partners to confront these threats, protect maritime security, and support efforts to consolidate security and stability, restore state institutions, and uphold Yemen’s sovereignty.
