Kuwait’s Ambassador to Washington: Wall Street Journal’s claims of Kuwait’s involvement in military operations against Iran are “completely baseless”

Washington, July 25 (KUNA) -- Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States, Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, sent an official letter to the editorial board of The Wall Street Journal in response to a report containing entirely false allegations regarding Kuwait’s participation in military operations against Iran.

In her letter, the Kuwaiti ambassador stated that the report, published on July 24 by journalists Summer Said and Shelby Holliday under the headline “Bahrain, Kuwait Warplanes Struck Iran in Rare Gulf Retaliation,” has no basis in fact. She emphasized that “the allegations contained therein are entirely false,” stressing that Kuwait has not participated in any military operations against Iran, nor has it allowed the use of its territory, airspace, or territorial waters to launch any offensive operations against any neighboring country.

She reaffirmed that “Kuwait’s position has been consistent, clear, and public throughout the current regional crisis, and is grounded in established principles, including respect for international law, safeguarding state sovereignty, promoting good-neighborly relations, and resolving disputes through peaceful means via dialogue and diplomacy.”

She explained that “given its location in a region that has borne the heavy human and economic costs of conflicts over decades, Kuwait believes that regional security is not achieved through escalation, but rather through de-escalation, restraint, and engagement in serious and sustained diplomatic dialogue—principles that continue to form the foundation of Kuwait’s foreign policy.”

The Kuwaiti ambassador also called on The Wall Street Journal to correct the report to accurately reflect the true position and policies of Kuwait, emphasizing that accuracy in reporting facts, especially amid regional tensions, is not merely a journalistic responsibility but a necessity for preserving regional stability and ensuring that public opinion is not misled on issues concerning international peace and security.
