Syrian President Discusses with UN Secretary-General Ways to Enhance Cooperation in Humanitarian and Development Fields

Amman, July 25 (KUNA) — Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa held talks today, Saturday, with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on ways to enhance cooperation between Syria and the UN in humanitarian and development fields. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the discussion took place during President al-Sharaa’s meeting with Guterres, who is visiting the Syrian capital, Damascus, on what is considered the first visit by a UN Secretary-General since 2009. The agency stated that the two sides also discussed support for early recovery and reconstruction efforts, and reaffirmed respect for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. For his part, Guterres, via his account on the social media platform X, affirmed the UN’s solidarity with Syria, calling on the international community to “spare no effort in supporting the Syrian people.” He noted that his visit to Syria is “a visit of solidarity,” reiterating the UN’s support for Syria at this critical juncture.
