Officially: Jürgen Klopp appointed as new head coach of the German national football team

Berlin, April 24 (KUNA) -- The German Football Association (DFB) officially announced on Friday the appointment of Jurgen Klopp as the new head coach of the national team, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned following Germany’s early exit from the 2026 World Cup.

At a press conference held at the DFB headquarters in Frankfurt, DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said Klopp was the “ideal choice” to lead the national team, praising his ability to motivate players and enhance their performance.

For his part, DFB vice president Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that negotiations with the new coach lasted 26 days, expressing his satisfaction at reaching an agreement.

Klopp said he felt great pride in taking on the role, describing the job of coaching the national team as a great honor. He stated that his goal is to build a team that fights for one another and enjoys playing football.

Klopp also sent a direct message to players, urging everyone qualified to represent Germany to give their utmost effort. He emphasized that he would be monitoring all candidates and would not hesitate to call up new faces to the national team.

Germany’s early departure from the World Cup led to the immediate resignation of former coach Julian Nagelsmann and sparked sharp criticism of the German Football Association.
