European Union: Sending firefighting aircraft to Spain and France to combat forest fires

Brussels, April 24 (KUNA) -- The European Union announced on Friday the dispatch of four firefighting aircraft to Spain and three to France to assist in combating the wildfires ravaging both countries. EU spokesperson Anna Kaissaitkonnen expressed the EU’s hope “that things will not spiral out of control,” while adding that the bloc is preparing for a difficult situation. Earlier in the day, Spain declared a state of emergency following wildfires that got out of control, while France evacuated thousands of residents from one of its tourist regions for the same reason.
