Iraq: No validity to reports of US proposal to Iran for ceasefire

Baghdad, July 24 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office denied on Friday a newspaper report alleging that Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Allawi had conveyed an American ceasefire proposal to Iran. In a statement, the Office of Media Affairs for the Prime Minister’s Office said, “The claims contained in the report published yesterday in The New York Times are baseless and have no connection to reality.” The office called for “accuracy and reliance on official sources, and warned against circulating unverified information or attributing it to unknown sources.” The New York Times had reported yesterday that Iran had rejected an American proposal for a temporary ceasefire, which al-Allawi had conveyed during his official visit to Tehran yesterday.
