President of the Arab Parliament Condemns the Assault by Thousands of Settlers on Al-Aqsa Mosque Under the Protection of the Occupation Police
Cairo, July 23 (KUNA) -- Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed Al-Yamahi, today strongly condemned the incursion by Israeli occupation government minister Itamar Ben-Gvir into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, leading thousands of settlers under police protection, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
In a statement, Al-Yamahi said the incursion was accompanied by provocative practices, including the performance of Talmudic rituals within the mosque’s courtyards, the raising of the occupation flag, the prevention of Muslim worshippers from entering, and assaults against them. He stressed that what is happening at Al-Aqsa is no longer merely a series of repeated incursions, but rather the implementation of a systematic plan aimed at imposing the occupation entity’s sovereignty over the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, entrenching temporal and spatial segregation, and erasing its Arab and Islamic identity, as part of a policy to Judaize the occupied city of Jerusalem and impose facts on the ground by force.
He added that these practices constitute a dangerous aggression against Islamic holy sites and an affront to the sentiments of more than two billion Muslims worldwide, heralding dangerous consequences for security and stability in the region and globally.
Al-Yamahi emphasized that the continued provision of official protection by the occupation government to these incursions, the expansion of their scope, and the permission to conduct religious rituals inside Al-Aqsa reveal its determination to undermine the historical and legal status of Islamic holy sites, as well as its disregard for United Nations resolutions and international law. He called for a firm international stance that goes beyond traditional statements of condemnation.
He urged the international community, the Security Council, and the United Nations to assume their legal and moral responsibilities and to take urgent and binding measures to halt these violations and provide international protection for Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic and Christian holy sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
He also called for the imposition of sanctions on the occupation government and officials involved in these violations, including the extremist ministers who lead the escalation policy, and for holding them accountable before international courts.
He affirmed that these practices represent a serious violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and contribute to inflaming the conflict and undermining prospects for peace and stability. (End) M.M. / M.A.A.
