UAE condemns Houthi attack on Saudi-owned ship in the Red Sea

Abu Dhabi, July 23 (KUNA) -- The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the Houthi group’s attack on the vessel ENCELIA, owned by a Saudi company, while it was navigating the Red Sea. In a statement on Thursday, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack constitutes a serious threat to the safety and security of international navigation and a dangerous escalation aimed at undermining the security and stability of vital waterways worldwide. The ministry called on the international community to ensure the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 on Yemen and Resolution 2722 on freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. It reaffirmed that freedom of navigation in international waterways is a right guaranteed by international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The ministry renewed the UAE’s full solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, affirming its support for all measures aimed at preserving its security and stability. (End) S.K.M./M.A.A.
