UK and Danish Prime Ministers Discuss Ways to Strengthen Relations and Support Ukraine

London, July 23 (KUNA) -- British Prime Minister Andy Burnham held talks today, Thursday, with his Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen, to explore ways of strengthening bilateral ties, supporting Ukraine, and developing cooperation between the United Kingdom and the European Union, alongside a number of issues of mutual interest.

The British government said in a statement that Burnham emphasized during a phone call with Mette his country’s commitment to enhancing defense cooperation with Denmark, particularly in maritime issues, while noting that the UK “has greatly benefited from the Danish approach to handling migration matters.”

He also reiterated the UK’s position on Greenland, stressing that its future “should be determined solely by the people of Greenland and Denmark.”

Regarding Ukraine and relations with the European Union, the British prime minister affirmed the UK’s continued “steady” support for Kyiv, expressing London’s desire to enhance cooperation with the EU on this file as well. He added that he had instructed his government team to work toward holding a summit between the UK and the EU later this year, viewing it as an opportunity to demonstrate a unified European approach in facing shared challenges.

Burnham has recently held a series of calls with several European and international leaders, including the prime ministers of Canada, Italy, Norway, and Australia, discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of common concern. (End)
