Iranian President and Iraqi Prime Minister Emphasize the Need to Open "New Horizons" for Cooperation Between the Two Countries

Tehran, July 23 (KUNA) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zoubi stressed on Thursday the need to consolidate “strategic” relations and open “new horizons” for cooperation between the two countries. The Iranian presidency said on its website that Pezeshkian and Al-Zoubi, during their meeting in Tehran, considered that “opening new horizons for cooperation is a strategic necessity for the future of relations between Tehran and Baghdad.” They emphasized that “expanding comprehensive relations will contribute to consolidating stability, security, and prosperity in both countries, safeguarding the interests of the two brotherly peoples, and enhancing regional solidarity and cohesion.” The two sides pointed to joint agreements between the two countries and regarded accelerating their full implementation as an important step toward advancing bilateral relations and securing mutual interests. Pezeshkian and Al-Zoubi stressed the need to activate shared capacities in political, economic, commercial, transit, energy, and regional cooperation fields. The Iraqi prime minister had arrived earlier in the day in the Iranian capital, Tehran, to discuss ways to develop bilateral relations and key regional and international issues with senior Iranian officials.
