British Embassy in Tehran temporarily withdraws staff due to security situation

London, July 23 (KUNA) -- The UK Department for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs announced on Thursday the temporary withdrawal of British Embassy staff in Tehran due to deteriorating security conditions. In a statement, the ministry said, “Given the current security situation, we have taken a precautionary measure to temporarily withdraw UK personnel from Iran and continue working remotely.” It added, “The support the UK government will be able to provide in Iran to its citizens will be extremely limited, and consular assistance will not be directly available during emergencies. We will also be unable to provide assistance in the event of a crisis in Iran.” The ministry issued travel advice for Iran, stating, “If you are a British citizen already in Iran, whether as a resident or a visitor, carefully consider your presence there and the risks you would face by remaining.” Two days earlier, US President Donald Trump threatened Iran in a post on the Truth Social platform, saying that any Iranian targeting of ships in the Strait of Hormuz would be met with force. “Whether by missile, shell, drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant, including those near or within the capital, Tehran.” (End) A.S.H / A.M.S
