This Day in Kuwait History

Kuwait City, July 23 (KUNA) -- July 23, 1962: Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah issues a law concerning military medals and ribbons. Article One stipulates that military medals and ribbons are to be awarded by emiri decree. The National Defense Medal comprises three ranks: Brigadier, Commander, and Knight. The Military Duty Medal has four classes, and the Military Service Ribbon has three classes.

2006: The Cabinet approves referring a draft law to the National Assembly, granting each Kuwaiti citizen a one-time payment of 200 dinars, in accordance with directives from Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

2007: The Ministry of Health announces that Kuwait is free from avian influenza, in accordance with the protocol of the World Organisation for Animal Health, three months after the last recorded case in the country.

2008: Kuwaiti soil receives the remains of martyr Fawzi Abdulrasoul Al-Majad, nearly two decades after his martyrdom during an operation against Israelis on occupied Palestinian territory.

2013: The Ministry of Health opens the Jabir Al-Ahmad Health Center, which serves 1,835 residential units and includes six clinics.

2020: Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah arrives in the United States of America to continue his medical treatment.

2020: The Cabinet decides to implement the transition to the third phase of the gradual return to normal life plan, imposing a curfew across all areas of Kuwait from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. the following day, starting July 28. It also approves holding Eid al-Adha prayers in all state mosques and outdoor Eid prayer grounds, within the framework of measures to combat the (coronavirus) pandemic.

2025: Death of former Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports Khaled Ahmad Majran Al-Hamad at the age of 92, following a distinguished career in Kuwaiti sports. (End) M.B.R. / N.S.
