Egypt receives new French medical aid shipment to treat Palestinian wounded in Egyptian hospitals

Cairo, July 21 (KUNA) -- The Egyptian Ministry of Health received on Tuesday a 22-ton shipment of medical aid donated by France to support the treatment of wounded and sick Palestinians in Egyptian hospitals. French Minister Delegate for Francophonie and International Partnerships, Eleanor Carreau, stated at a joint press conference with Egyptian Health Minister Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar during the handover ceremony that the new grant falls within efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of civilians in the Gaza Strip. Carreau praised Egypt’s role in receiving and treating approximately 100 wounded Palestinians daily, reaffirming France’s commitment to continue mobilizing international support and enhancing cooperation to achieve peace based on the two-state solution. For his part, Abdel Ghaffar expressed hope that the French grant would bolster the capacity of Egyptian hospitals to continue providing medical care to wounded and sick Palestinians. He added that the shipment includes medicines, supplies, and medical equipment, thereby supporting the health services provided to Palestinian patients receiving treatment in Egyptian hospitals. He noted that France’s response since the onset of the crisis in the Gaza Strip has been characterized by speed and continuity, including the deployment of a medical ship off the coast of Arish, which provided more than 1,000 medical consultations and performed over 120 surgeries, in addition to receiving critical cases in French hospitals and providing various humanitarian aid. He emphasized that health cooperation between Egypt and France extends beyond immediate humanitarian response to encompass long-term partnerships, including support for primary healthcare systems, universal health insurance, and maternal and child health programs in collaboration with the French Development Agency, as well as cooperation with the Gustave Roussy Institute for treating Palestinian children suffering from cancer.
