Indian Police Arrest Opposition Bloc Leader During Protests Outside Prime Minister's Office

New Delhi, July 21 (KUNA) -- Indian police arrested opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday as he participated in protests outside the office of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside leaders of other opposition parties, demanding the resignation of Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Indian media reported that police officers arrested Rahul Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi, and several members of the Indian National Congress party, which he leads, as well as leaders of other opposition parties who organized the protests outside the prime minister’s office to call for the resignation of Modi and Pradhan over the “failure” in managing the admission examinations for medical colleges. Police had clashed with supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (Common Man’s Party) yesterday while they attempted to organize a march to Parliament in protest over the same issue, resulting in injuries among demonstrators and security forces. In a related development, the Modi government, in a brief statement, accused Gandhi of exploiting the student issue to advance his political demands, asserting that his actions were inconsistent with the ethics expected of an opposition leader.
