Lebanese Army announces completion of deployment in the town of Zouter al-Gharbi amid Israeli occupation attacks
Beirut, July 21 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese Army announced on Tuesday the completion of the deployment of its military units inside the town of Zourat al-Gharbiya (Western Zourat) in the Nabatieh Governorate in the south of the country, adding that its personnel came under fire from Israeli occupation forces. In a statement, the Army Command said the military units carried out their deployment inside Western Zourat, reaching its outskirts, and conducted an engineering survey there following the necessary coordination with the Special Military Coordination Group for Lebanon, emphasizing that they did not enter the neighboring town of Zourat al-Sharqiya (Eastern Zourat). The Army Command clarified that Israeli occupation forces approached the outskirts of the town and fired at close range to Army elements during the mission, endangering them and hindering their work, and stressed the necessity of resolving any issues through established channels “rather than through attacks.”
In a related development, the Lebanese Red Cross announced that two of its medics were injured when a landmine exploded in an ambulance while they were carrying out a mission to retrieve a body in Eastern Zourat. The convoy was later able to exit with the accompaniment of the Army and Civil Defense, and the injured were provided with first aid.
Regarding field developments, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that occupation forces carried out bombing operations in Wadi al-Istabl in the town of Hawta, and in two waves in the town of Majdal Zoun, coinciding with the setting of fires at the outskirts of the town of Aitroun, the dropping of sound bombs, and sweeping operations using machine guns in several towns in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon has witnessed a wide-scale military escalation and intensive aerial raids by the Israeli occupation air force on various Lebanese areas since March 2 of last year, resulting in thousands of casualties, widespread destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.
