European Union calls on Kosovo institutions not to obstruct the reintegration of Serbian judicial staff

Brussels, July 21 (KUNA) -- The European Union today called on all relevant institutions in Kosovo to refrain from obstructing the reintegration of judicial staff from Kosovo Serbs. EU spokesperson Anwar Al-Anani said in a statement that Kosovo, as a multi-ethnic society governed by the rule of law under its constitution, must ensure that its judicial system reflects this ethnic diversity. He added that the EU has consistently urged Kosovo to enable the reintegration of judges, prosecutors, and judicial staff from Kosovo Serbs in accordance with the country’s laws and agreements reached within the framework of the dialogue.

The EU welcomed the withdrawal, on July 15, of resignations submitted by judges, prosecutors, and support staff from Kosovo Serbs. Conversely, it expressed concern over the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council’s decision on Monday to accept those previously withdrawn resignations, as well as the acting president’s decision on Tuesday to approve them. The EU considered these decisions “to appear incompatible with the law, due process, and the general requirements of the rule of law in Kosovo.” It called on all relevant institutions to refrain from taking any measures aimed at preventing the reintegration of judicial staff from Kosovo Serbs.
