(Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Summons Iranian Ambassador and Hands Over Protest Note Over Attack on Kuwaiti Tanker (Kivan)

Kuwait City, July 21 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mushaan, today Tuesday summoned the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kuwait, Mohammad Toutounji, to hand him a note of protest regarding Iran’s targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker “Kivan” on Monday evening as it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in injuries to several members of its crew.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Al-Mushaan emphasized that this blatant aggression occurs amid the escalating unlawful aggression launched by Iran against Kuwait since February 28, 2026, including inflammatory and provocative statements issued by the Iranian side. He stated that this constitutes a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and interests, as well as a threat to the security and freedom of international navigation, and a breach of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.

Ambassador Al-Mushaan reiterated Kuwait’s demand for Iran to immediately halt its unlawful attacks, stressing Kuwait’s reservation of the right to take necessary measures, and placed full responsibility for this aggression and Iran’s continued hostility toward Kuwait on Iran. (End) A.A. / A.M.H.
