Germany calls for continued cooperation and coordination with Britain following the change of government in London

Berlin, July 21 (KUNA) -- German Foreign Minister Johann Wadefohl called on Tuesday for the continuation of cooperation between Germany and the United Kingdom and France within the framework known as the “E3” format, following the formation of the new British government led by Andy Burnham.

In a statement in Berlin, Wadefohl said that London had sent positive signals prior to the formation of the new government regarding the continuation of this cooperation, noting that the E3 format represents an important tool enabling Europe to maintain its capacity for dialogue, decision-making, and joint action on major international issues.

The German minister added that Europe needs to strengthen its political role, particularly in light of current crises, clarifying that coordination among the three countries allows for the formulation of a more influential European position on international dossiers.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Wadefohl criticized the absence of practical communications and negotiations at present, stating that relying solely on the continuation of military conflicts is not a solution. He stressed the necessity of returning to the diplomatic track, emphasizing that the international community cannot perpetuate wars indefinitely and that political initiatives are needed to help achieve peaceful solutions.

The E3 format serves as a framework for coordination among Germany, France, and the United Kingdom on security and political issues, particularly concerning international dossiers such as Ukraine, the Middle East, and Iran’s nuclear program. (End) A.N.J. / N.S.A.
