US President Signs Executive Order to Secure Defense Supply Chains

Washington, July 20 (KUNA) -- U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order today, Monday, to secure American defense supply chains for advanced equipment that enables the United States to maintain military superiority and ensure access to the critical materials and components needed to manufacture such equipment from domestic sources, as part of efforts to reduce reliance on foreign sources.

The White House said in a statement that the executive order “encourages defense contractors to begin qualifying new domestic sources for critical metals, materials, and components used in specific national security procurements (particularly classified) from domestic sources and from allied countries, while removing regulatory barriers.”

The statement noted that President Trump “is taking action to ensure the continuation of U.S. military dominance and that the U.S. military remains the strongest and best-equipped in the world.”

Trump signed an executive order in January 2025 to modernize defense procurement processes and stimulate innovation within the defense industrial base, and in March 2025 he signed another executive order to boost U.S. metal production and streamline licensing. (End) A.S.J. / M.A.H.A.
