British Prime Minister Discusses Middle East Situation in Phone Call with US President

London, July 20 (KUNA) -- British Prime Minister Andy Burnham held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday to discuss ways to develop bilateral relations across various fields, as well as to exchange views on the international situation, particularly in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz.

The British government stated in a press release that the Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing global security during the call with Trump, emphasizing that strengthening the security of the United Kingdom and its allies is among his top priorities. According to the statement, Burnham also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and to securing supply chains.

Andy Burnham, leader of the British Labour Party, assumed the office of Prime Minister earlier today, succeeding Keir Starmer, who formally submitted his resignation to King Charles III. Burnham met with the King at Buckingham Palace, where he was officially commissioned to form the government as the 59th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

It is worth noting that on his first day in office, Burnham pledged to speak with President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. (End)
