Algerian President and Spanish Prime Minister Discuss Ways to Enhance Cooperation in Various Fields
Algiers, July 20 (KUNA) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez discussed on Monday ways to enhance bilateral relations and broaden cooperation across various fields.
In a statement following his meeting with the Spanish prime minister, during which they held bilateral talks, President Tebboune said the discussions took place within the framework of an “open dialogue” covering cooperation in energy, renewable energy, trade, investment promotion, security, justice, and diplomacy. He emphasized Algeria’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Spain in various sectors, noting that bilateral relations are witnessing distinct and growing momentum.
He added that the Spanish prime minister’s visit constituted a “key and important milestone” in preparations for the eighth session of the Algerian-Spanish High-Level Meeting, scheduled for next October, reflecting the political will to advance bilateral relations to broader horizons. He highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation, strengthening partnerships, and capitalizing on promising and mutually beneficial investment opportunities.
President Tebboune praised bilateral ties in the judicial field, as well as cooperation in combating irregular migration, human trafficking, and transnational organized crime. He expressed hope that Spain would play a positive role in advancing economic relations between Algeria and European Union member states to new heights.
For his part, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, in a similar statement, affirmed his country’s commitment to building a strategic economic partnership with Algeria and consolidating its position in the country’s modernization process, particularly in the energy and industrial sectors.
The Spanish prime minister said his visit to Algeria had acquired “special importance” for his government, which views Algeria not merely as a neighboring country but as a “strategic partner and dear friend.” He added that the visit underscored a “firm resolve” to deepen friendship and broaden cooperation, pointing out that the two countries share “key priorities,” including strengthening political dialogue, which serves as the foundation for all other areas of cooperation.
He noted that executives from major Spanish energy companies accompanied him on his visit to Algeria, adding that these companies have a strong presence in the country and intend to continue investing and contributing to its prosperity. (End) M.R.
