(Ministry of Interior): Foiled attempt to smuggle 210 sheets of (A4) paper saturated with narcotics into the country

Kuwait City, July 20 (KUNA) — The Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate for the Suppression of Narcotics, announced on Monday the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle drugs into the country via an international postal parcel.

In a statement, the Ministry said the operation resulted in the arrest of suspects of Asian nationality and the seizure of narcotics intended for trafficking, as part of the continuous efforts undertaken by the Criminal Security Sector to combat the smuggling and distribution of narcotic substances.

It clarified that, in coordination with the General Customs Authority, inspection and search operations led to the discovery of the drugs, despite attempts to conceal them as instructional booklets and hide them inside 10 electric light bulbs.

The statement noted that after completing the necessary procedures, the recipient of the parcel was apprehended. Upon questioning, he admitted that he was preparing to hand over the parcel to a second suspect. Additionally, 10 grams of methamphetamine (shabu) and a sensitive scale were found in their possession.

The suspects and seized items were referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal action against them.

The Ministry reaffirmed its continued deployment of preemptive strikes against drug smugglers and traffickers, and its firm stance against any attempts to introduce these toxins into the country, emphasizing that it remains on high alert against anyone attempting to undermine societal security.
