Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) Participates in the Opening of a Solar Energy Project in Southern Turkey
Istanbul, July 18 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development participated today in the opening ceremony of a solar power plant project in Kahramanmaras province, southern Turkey, as part of the Fund’s grant to support the response plan for the Syrian refugee crisis.
In his speech at the opening, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Turkey, Mohammed Al-Shaboub, said the project embodies Kuwait’s commitment to supporting sustainable development projects that enhance the capacity of host communities to face challenges and contribute to improving the level of services provided to them.
He added that the project, located in the Bazarcik district, aims to generate 6 megawatts of electricity to meet heating and cooling needs in camps and temporary shelters, while also reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions and promoting reliance on renewable and sustainable energy sources.
He clarified that the project comes within the Kuwait Fund’s efforts to support development projects related to the Syrian refugee crisis, thereby contributing to improving living conditions and enhancing stability in affected areas.
For his part, Kahramanmaras Mayor Fırat Görgül, in his speech at the ceremony, stated that the Kahramanmaras solar power plant represents a qualitative addition to the city’s sustainable development journey, expressing his appreciation for the financial support provided by the Kuwait Fund, which contributed to implementing this vital project.
He added that the project reflects the depth of friendship relations between the Republic of Turkey and the State of Kuwait, and embodies the importance of international cooperation and partnerships in supporting development projects with sustainable impact.
The Kuwait Fund has allocated $4 million to establish the solar power plant out of a total grant amounting to $10 million, which also finances three other projects: a children’s library and arts center, a guidance, counseling, and career planning center, and a youth and sports center. (End)
