Egyptian Foreign Minister Holds Talks with His Cypriot Counterpart on Bilateral Relations and Regional Developments

Cairo, July 18 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Cypriot counterpart, Konstantinos Kompos, on ways to strengthen the close ties between the two countries and to consult on regional developments. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Saturday that the discussion took place during a phone call, during which the two sides exchanged views on regional developments and ways to de-escalate tensions in the region. Minister Abdelatty briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain regional unrest. The statement noted that the Egyptian foreign minister emphasized the need to prioritize political and diplomatic solutions and to avoid widening the conflict, given its repercussions on the security and stability of the region, as well as on international navigation, global trade, and supply chains. For his part, the Cypriot foreign minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts and initiatives to achieve calm and de-escalation in the region. Regarding Egyptian-Cypriot relations, the two ministers, according to the statement, praised the depth of the historical ties between the two countries, which were elevated to a strategic partnership last April. Minister Abdelatty expressed his hope for continued coordination between the two countries at all levels, emphasizing the importance of further enhancing economic and trade cooperation and promptly beginning implementation of the memorandum of understanding on the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus. He also highlighted the importance of the trilateral cooperation mechanism among Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece at various levels, which strengthens the nature of the partnership among these countries, and stressed the need to continue developing relations in economic, trade, investment, and tourism sectors.
