CENTCOM: Start of a new wave of strikes on Iran in response to targeting navigation in Hormuz

Washington, July 17 (KUNA) – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Friday the commencement of a new wave of strikes against Iran in response to attacks on commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement, CENTCOM said, “U.S. forces began a new wave of strikes against Iran at 3:00 a.m. Eastern Time for the seventh consecutive night.” The statement clarified that the U.S. strikes aim to further undermine Iran’s military capabilities to target commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. In a separate statement, CENTCOM reported that U.S. forces had rerouted four commercial vessels, disabled one, and boarded another to verify full compliance with the blockade imposed on Iranian ports. U.S. forces had resumed a naval blockade on ships heading to or departing from Iranian ports and coastal areas starting last Tuesday, in response to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
