Iraqi Kurdistan: Eight Bomb-Laden Drones Shot Down Over the Skies of Erbil

Erbil, July 17 (KUNA) -- The General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism in the Kurdistan Region announced on Friday that coalition forces had destroyed and shot down eight explosive-laden drones in the skies over Erbil.

The directorate said in a statement that the attack took place in the early hours of the day, during which the drones were intercepted and smoke columns were seen in the sky resulting from the interception operations, with no loss of life, except for limited material damage at sites where the wreckage of the targeted drones fell.

These field developments coincide with what the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate announced on Wednesday evening regarding the thwarting of a series of similar attacks using explosive-laden drones over the skies of the capital, Erbil, with no human casualties.

In anticipation of security developments, the UAE-based Dana Gas company announced the suspension of its production operations at the Kormor gas field, which supplies the region with natural gas. This has led to a reduction in the hours of electricity supply to citizens and a noticeable rise in gas prices, particularly for cooking purposes, across the region. (End) S.B.R. / G.A.
