US Secretary of State Announces Visa Restrictions on Supporters of the "Far Left"
Washington, July 16 (KUNA) -- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Thursday a new foreign policy for his department that imposes visa restrictions on individuals who support networks of “extreme-left terrorist groups” seeking entry to the United States. Rubio’s announcement came in a statement following an international ministerial meeting he hosted earlier that day at the U.S. State Department in Washington, titled “The Resurgence of Political Terrorism,” linked to the extreme left.
Rubio stated, “In support of Presidential National Security Memorandum 7 and the ongoing efforts of the U.S. government to disrupt networks that fuel political violence before it escalates into criminal acts, the State Department is announcing a new visa restriction policy targeting members of extreme-left terrorist groups and allied groups who have supported terrorist acts, incited them, supported violent criminal activities, participated in economic sabotage, or provided funding, recruitment, or logistical support for violent or criminal acts committed by those groups, and/or facilitated the convergence of extreme-left terrorist networks and their allies with the aim of carrying out violent acts.”
He clarified that this policy “will protect the American homeland by restricting the entry of foreign nationals who fund, recruit, incite, or otherwise enable extreme-left terrorist networks that engage in violence and crime, thereby closing visa pathways exploited by these groups to threaten the lives of Americans, undermine economic stability, and coordinate violent acts on U.S. soil.”
He emphasized that “extreme-left terrorist groups and their allies often use sophisticated, organized networks to carry out violence as a political means, seeking to impose an extremist political vision through intimidation and coordinated terrorist campaigns.”
He noted that “this strategy is explicitly aimed at undermining the political foundations of free societies by using bombings, assassinations, and other forms of terrorism to silence voices, curb political opposition, alter policy outcomes, and sabotage political processes.”
Earlier, in his opening address at the “Resurgence of Political Terrorism” meeting, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed efforts to establish an international coalition to combat “extreme-left terrorism,” which Washington considers a “transnational threat” linked to networks operating in coordination with “hostile foreign states” such as Iran and Cuba.
