Tunis, July 16 (KUNA) -- The 29th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, Standardization and Mineral Resources (AOSIQ) convened today in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, with representatives from 21 Arab countries, including Kuwait.

In his opening address, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, head of Libya’s Government of National Unity, stated that “holding the session in Tripoli sends a clear message affirming that Arab cooperation is the closest path to achieving development, and that economic integration is no longer an option but a necessity imposed by rapid economic changes.”

Dbeibeh called for moving from exchanging views to building practical partnerships and launching joint Arab initiatives and investments that foster growth, create jobs, and enhance the economic security of Arab states. He noted that Libya’s Government of National Unity continues to implement its vision for diversifying the national economy by developing the industrial sector, improving the investment climate, reactivating industrial zones, leveraging mineral resources, encouraging manufacturing industries, and supporting the private sector.

He emphasized that “the future of Arab industry can only be realized through the integration of expertise, convergence of policies, and expansion of joint investments, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Arab economies.”

The opening session, attended by AOSIQ Director General Adel Al-Saqqa alongside industry ministers and senior officials from member states, witnessed the official launch of the “Arab Platform for Industrial Indicators.” This platform is one of the organization’s key strategic initiatives, aiming to establish a unified Arab database of industrial indicators to support policy formulation, enhance decision-making, and provide accurate metrics for measuring industrial performance across Arab countries.

Participants also discussed the organization’s initiatives aimed at accelerating digital transformation and expanding the use of artificial intelligence technologies in industry, standardization, and mining, contributing to increased productivity, enhanced competitiveness, and alignment with global industrial developments.

On another note, the conference stressed the importance of strengthening joint Arab efforts to address economic and industrial challenges, developing cooperation in industry, standardization, and mining, and adopting digital transformation and artificial intelligence as strategic options for modernizing the Arab industrial sector.

Kuwait is participating in the conference, represented by a delegation from the Public Authority for Industry, led by Jarallah Al-Dosari, Deputy Director General for Financial and Administrative Affairs. According to a statement from the Authority, Kuwait reaffirmed its commitment to supporting joint Arab action and enhancing cooperation in industrial development, standardization, and mining, contributing to economic integration and sustainable development in Arab countries.
